WHAT FAITH IS

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5: 7

Greetings my friend! Let's continue our series on the ABCs of faith. Why the ABCs of faith? First of all, faith pleases God. Next, God wants you to win in life and faith is the key to continual victory and success. Finally, I believe that Jesus is coming soon and when He comes He expects to find faith on the earth (Luke 18: 8). When He comes He wants to find Bible faith on this planet. In these lessons we are dealing with the ABCs or beginning of the faith life, teaching you how faith works and how to live by faith. My objective is to make faith so simple that you will be able to live victoriously now and be prepared for His eminent return for a people of faith. Today we will deal with the subject of sense knowledge as it relates to faith. First let's refresh and review:

WHAT IS FAITH?
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11: 1 (KJV)

Hebrews 11: 1 gives us the Bible definition of faith.
Faith is the substance of the things you hope for or desire.
Faith is evidence of the invisible.
We have said faith is not hope. Hope is always future and faith is always now. Next we said faith is not mental assent. Today I want to show you that Bible faith is not sense knowledge faith.


SENSE KNOWLEDGE
Here is the thing that makes faith such a challenge; the senses or SENSE KNOWLEDGE. Sense knowledge is knowledge that is received through the five physical senses; seeing, feeling, tasting, touching and smelling. Bible Faith really has nothing to do with sense knowledge. Sense knowledge faith is the enemy of Bible Faith. I am talking about faith in the promises of God, not just positive thinking or luck. Faith has nothing to do with luck. Faith is based on the eternal truth of God's holy Word. If we can't have faith in that, what can we have faith in?
Let's take a closer look at Hebrews 11: 1 from two different translations:


Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11: 1 (KJV)

1NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. Hebrews 11 (Amplified Bible)

FACTS NOT REVEALED TO THE SENSES
I really like the amplified translation; Faith perceives as real fact what is not revealed to the senses. Faith is based upon the facts of God's Word, not the facts of the natural world. For example ; the economic crisis is a fact, but just because there is an economic crisis in the world doesn't mean there is one for the believer. You can by faith, choose not to participate in the crisis because you are in the world but not of the world. You are a child of faith! Faith perceives prosperity as a real fact, no matter what is being revealed to the senses by Wall Street or the economic forecasts of the day. "If you got 100 economists and laid them head to feet, they would not even reach a conclusion." We are talking about faith in the Word and promises of God and not the world's economic system which the Bible calls Babylon. It is going to eventually fall anyway so don't build your financial life on it.
